The National Unity platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi has downplayed the role of local human rights bodies to defend citizens’ rights.

This was ahead of his planned petition to the United Nations Human Rights offices in Kampala.

Addressing the media at his Kamwokya party head offices flanked by relatives of missing Ugandans, Kyagulanyi said they have no confidence in the local institutions, explaining his decision to petition the UN.

He is hopeful that they will be able to have their concerns addressed.

NUP maintains that there are about 243 people who have been reported kidnapped and are still missing.
