The African Union has been asked to call on all its member governments to immediately cut diplomatic ties with Israel in solidarity with the people of Palestine who are currently caught up in the war in Gaza and the West Bank.

The call was made by Prof Peter Anyang Nyongó, the United Nations Advisor on Local and Regional Governments, who also doubles as the Governor for Kisumu County.

In a press statement on the Israel-Palestine war, Anyang Nyongó says progressive forces led by the African Union cannot stand by and let wide-scale killings happen.

He says the bloody conflict has had a ripple effect across the world.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has often justified the war, saying they were provoked by Hamas, but the Arab and Muslim leaders have dismissed this narrative, blaming the West for the misery in Gaza.

Leaders accuse the US and other powers of hypocrisy over Israel’s actions.
