Broadcasters slam artistes over nudity
Broadcasters on Thursday expressed their concern over nude content on artistes’ social media platforms.
The media owners have also accused Ugandan artistes of destroying society, saying some entertainers, who are making demands to have their content dominate 90% of media space cannot differentiate between private and public body parts.
“These people [artistes] are pushing you [MPs] that you put it in the law that the local companies should use their faces but when on their social media platforms, I don’t think you can use someone who is half naked. These artistes have no difference between a private part and government part, and then tomorrow, you want me to use you as the brand,” Andrew Irumba a representative of online media under the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) told legislators on Thursday.
Led by musician Eddy Kenzo, entertainers have been in and out of various government offices, parliament inclusive, pressing government to implement and update the copyright law, among other demands.
Now Irumba wants the Ministry of Gender to stop artistes from sharing nude content, explaining that they are destroying society.
In September, a section of Members of Parliament expressed their concern over what they perceived as “excessive nudity” that was exhibited during the music concert of two female artistes; Sheebah Karungi, and Cinderella Sanyu.
