UBOA jubilates as UNRA allows buses to use Katonga bridge
Members of the Uganda Bus Owners and Operators Association (UBOA) have lauded the Uganda National Roads Authority for re-opening Katonga bridge along Kampala- Masaka Highway to buses.
According to the UNRA media relations officer, Mr Allan Ssempebwa, only buses within the allowable limits of under 30 ton loads are authorized to use the bridge
He adds that this should be done while following precautionary measures including continuous monitoring of the bridge to ensure it is always structurally safe.
Meanwhile, Robert Mutebi, the UBOA spokesperson says the move will greatly reduce their operating costs and also ease the burden on their clients.
The bridge had been closed due to a damage after river Katonga burst its banks, leading to the collapse of the bridge and part of the road.
